School Student of Armenian Descent Raises Funds for SOA Athlete

Ms. Hera Palamoudian, a high school student of Armenian descent, born in Los Angeles and raised in Greece, has been a volunteer of Special Olympics. She took part in Special Olympics World Summer Games in 2011 as a volunteer. Hera and her family members acted as Armenia delegation assistant liaisons providing support to the members of the Special Olympics Armenia team while in Greece. With their dedication and commitment, the Palamoudian family built personal relationship with and made a difference in the lives of Armenian athletes.

Hera’s volunteerism has extended to a long-term dedication to service for improving the lives of people with special needs. She has offered to raise funds for the Special Olympics Armenia team participating in the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

As a student at St. Catherine’s British School, in Athens, Greece, Hera and her classmates held a number of fundraising events, such as bake sales, starting from September 2014. All students, teacher and staff of the school showed great enthusiasm for the ‘sponsor an athlete’ project.

The funds she has raised will enable one of the Armenian delegation members – a special athlete – to participate in the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, the largest sports and humanitarian event anywhere in the world in 2015, and the single biggest event in Los Angeles since the 1984 Olympic Games.

Special Olympics Armenia is grateful to Hera, her family, classmates, and school for their efforts in raising funds for this humanitarian cause, which will contribute to the improvement of special athletes’ lives. On behalf of the Special Olympics Armenia team, we would like to once again thank Hera, her school and the school principal Mr. Stuart Smith, who encouraged Hera with great enthusiasm throughout the process of raising funds.
